The Shanghai No. 2 Intermediate People’s Court made the first-instance judgment in the dispute over the right of name filed by Michael Jeffrey Jordan on December 30, 2020, of which the defendants are Jordan Sports Co., Ltd. (“Jordan Sports Company”), Shanghai Bairen Trading Co., Ltd. (“Bairen Trading Company”) . 

 

Jordan sports company is judged to publish a statement in the newspapers and network statements to clarify the relationship between the two parties, as well as a public apology for three consecutive days; Furthermore, Jordan sports company is requested to stop using "Qiao Dan (in Chinese characters)" as its corporate name and trademark. As for the involved trademark "Qiao Dan (in Chinese characters)" exceeding more than five years of dispute period, it is also requested to be used in a reasonable manner including bearing a sign of distinctiveness, etc., and also indicate that there is no connection between the former U.S. basketball player Michael Jordan and the defendant. Jordan sports company should compensate Michael Jeffrey Jordan moral damages solatium RMB 300,000 and a reasonable expenditure of RMB 50,000.
